12 Steps From Bullshit

One after another, after another, after another…

You ever have a day, or a period of time when you encounterd a problem? Then another one hits. You work the problem and you get hit again. You’re thinking this is some bullshit. But you keep getting hit. And slowly but surely, the bullshit that you originally encountered is 12 steps down the road. You’re thinking, how the fuck did that happen? You just knew you were at your end. But here you are, 12 steps removed and still in the fight. How is that so?

In a class many moons ago, they were talking about just that. There was a study {and I can’t quote it for the life of me}, that said when you think you are at the end, you actually are only at 40%. Meaning you have a lot left in the tank. I personally have found that to be true, despite living through some horrific times in my life. Now I don’t know if that is because I have spent a lifetime meditating and I will never quit. Or, if that study truly holds some merit?

Does that ring true for you? Maybe your significant other left and that devastated you? You swore off dating, but later found yourself in another relationship, only to crash and burn again. Perhaps it happened several more times, and you completely stopped trusting. Then one day out of the clear blue, you met someone and you knew it would be different. You believed in yourself because you been through enough pain and went all in. To your surprise, it was the best thing that ever happened to you?

When we’re going through it, we often feel like we’re at the end. But truth be told, I kind of believe in that study. We are actually just getting started. But we’ve been conditioned to overreact. Assume the worst before getting all the facts. Or simply seeing where the day goes. What I like about that study is unrealized potential. If we really knew how resilient we were, we would probably never worry again.

So embrace that fact the next time you are going through it. It may be a bad day, week, or even a month. The good news? You probably are 12 steps away from bullshit. Keep walking. There is more in your tank than you even know.
