A Girl, The Beach, And A Cup Of Coffee
Mother of God, it was an insanely busy week. But the good news is, I have perfected the craft of checking out. I don’t need to jump on a plane, bitch slap someone, or dive head first into some bad choices. I just need a girl, a beach, and a cup of coffee.
My entire life is been devoted to helping people. More specifically, usually on the worst days of their lives. And while I have a world class self-care regimen, sometimes the day gets one up on me. That’s when I run to my go to. And I am blessed to be able to do that every day, if needed. But the problem for many, is that they overlook what is right in front of them. Too busy counting problems, instead of counting blessings.
Wife and I were actually talking about that this morning. So many people just look angry. I get it, there is no shortage of things to be angry about. But if being mad is your default, you’re in trouble. Everyone needs an outlet. And if you’re mindful, you will choose a healthy outlet. No need to complicate an already complicated situation.
I live with the coolest fucking chick on the planet, in a sleepy little beach town. 5 minutes down the road from me, is a Starbucks. Hence, at least once a week I grab my wife, a coffee, and head to the beach. We sit, we talk. Sometimes we just meditate. It doesn’t take much to reset. In fact, the more you need, the more you will hunger. Downsizing and living a quiet life, has been one of the best things we ever did.
Happiness is a choice. And it, just like everything else, you have to work for. And since the time is going to pass anyway, might as well be in good spirits. As for me, it is pretty rare that I have a bad day. But when I do, the antidote is quite simple. I just need my girl, the beach and a cup of coffee.
