Bullshit Believers

I’ve got mine. You got yours. They’ve got theirs. We all have our own bullshit that we believe in. And that’s not the problem. The problem is that we don’t believe in each other. And that’s just sad. Let’s get into it.,,,

Beliefs are intensely personal things. Be it God, religion, vaccines, abortions, conspiracy theories, politics or whatever. People will die for them. Knock yourself out. I’m the one who is trying to understand. Trying to find common ground. We all can be right, in as what is right for ourselves. Still, we push our bullshit onto another.

I am not a Trump fan. Yet, my best friend is all in on his bullshit. I believe in vaccines. Don’t have yours? You do you. My whole life I have been open to others bullshit. As a young man, I made a conscious decision to move into a bad {I mean really bad} neighborhood. I dated women who were both many years older and younger than me. I’ve dated different races and cultures. And proud to say that today, some of my best friends don’t look, act or believe like me. It’s pretty cool.

Many are quick to close out the world if it doesn’t conform to their belief system. I think that is small minded thinking. One of the things that I found most fascinating in my life was being a chaplain. Sitting in a room with a man who has killed people over different beliefs. Now, he was asking for help from a man who didn’t believe as he did. Kind of a strange place to be. Literally killing someone over what they believe, yet asking for help from someone who doesn’t believe as you do. What’s up with that?

Let people have their bullshit. Stop trying to intimidate, shame or belittle others bullshit. When in the history of history, has that produced a favorable result? The answer is, what is never. {Now that’s funny.} Look, there is so much life to live. Go out and live it. Embrace your kink, your candidate, religion, or whatever the fuck that feels good to you. Just don’t be an asshole about it. Because in the end, we all are believers in some bullshit.

I’ve got mine. You got yours. They’ve got theirs. And when you stop and think about it. It really is a beautiful thing. Bullshit. The one thing, that leads to good things. Let’s not fuck it up for others because we can’t celebrate our differences.
