Dancing With Demons
We’ve all got skeletons in the closet. We’ve all got a past with some not so good things in it. But here’s the thing, I say dance. Dance like everyone is watching, and literally don’t give a fuck about it. The most powerful day in my life, was when I realized that not only have I let my skeletons out, I took it a step further. I danced with my demons.
You know all of those thoughts that keep you from loving yourself? Well, they’re a liar. Because what you’ve done is not who you are. It’s an action in the past. And believe me, everybody has a past. Everybody is an asshole in someone’s story. And that’s okay. Just don’t be an asshole in yours. Start today. Start right now. Start by affirming that today is a clean slate. We can simultaneously create a bright future, while having a dark past. It’s going to take sometime, because there are going to be a lot of people who are still holding you in judgement. All the more reason to lift the judgement from upon yourself.
I’m not saying that we should not try and make amends for our past. What I am saying is, know that for some, the efforts will never be good enough. And you know what? They don’t have to be. Being sincere in those efforts is the key that unbinds you. And trust me, you will make more mistakes in the future. Many more. Just try and make them less frequently. Because if you don’t, you will continue to have demons. And they will haunt you. And you will lose yourself in negative thoughts and unhealthy behavior.
So make amends if at all possible. Forgive yourself for both past and future mistakes. More importantly, put your dancing shoes on and dance with those demons. Take the lead, don’t let them lead you. Because they want you to suffer in silence. But if you drag them onto the dance floor for the whole world to see, I promise you they will want to dance no more. And then you will be free…
