Rape, suicide, murder and addiction. Yeah, just some of what I have dealt with over the past 4 decades in mental health. It’s a fucked up world. But I get it now. Sometimes some very good people do some every bad things. Life can bear down on you and break even the strongest. I’ve seen it happen time and time again. Those who I thought would make it, crumbled. Those who I thought wouldn’t, defied the odds.
It’s Friday night. It has been a brutal week. Cold outside but my heart is warm. Why? Because I don’t focus on the bad. I focus on the blessings. I helped people this week. A lot of them. And that does the heart good. Despite this dark and cynical world, I’m doing my best to offer a spark for those who need it. The world in kind, has done the same for me when the motivation is gone. The discipline has been depleted. And I feel like I just can’t go on anymore. While that happens every couple of years, I do not forget the mercy that has been shown to me.
I think that is what it is all about. There will be times when we have the ability to be a bright spot. We need to seize those times. Because many have fallen on hard times. Many may lack the skill-set and support to turn it around. Call me unrealistic. Call me a hippie. I just want what we all want. Peace. And more often than not, I have the ability to help facilitate that.
We seriously have no idea what others are going through. Let me let you in on a little secret. Those who are displaying bad behavior…they’re hurting. Real talk. I know some of these mother fuckers deserved to be punched in the face. But the flip side of that coin? I too, have been one of those mother fuckers. If we can’t show mercy, we can at least suspend aggression?
Where are you at today? Needing a miracle or offering mercy? Wherever you are at, just know that someone, somewhere, is probably praying for you. We are never too far gone. And at some point in our lives, I’m sure we didn’t deserve the mercy that was shown to us. But we accepted it. And if you cashed that mercy in, how about paying it forward when you can? Mercy is the only way we will make it. Let’s make it.
