My Wife And My Girlfriend

I have 2 loves in my life. You’ve probably even heard my talk about them from time to time. A few weeks back, I wrote a piece called Husband And Wife Shit. It was basically referring to the mundane tasks that all married couples do. But then it went onto talking about dating my wife. I know it’s an old concept, and people talk about date night. I like to take it a step further. In my house, we date non stop. Let me explain…

I’ll start by saying we have a great married life. We handle all problems that life throws at us as a team. We have carved out our tasks that make the house run smoothly. But here is where it gets a little complicated. I work insane hours. And now that we are in the fall, from October to April, I put longer hours in, lasting well into the night. Tuesdays through Fridays in reality, I see my wife maybe for 30 minutes a day. Maybe. So our relationship looks different on those days. Friday evening until Monday evening, my wife is more of my girlfriend. It just works for us.

During the week, I am beyond busy. That is when we get our husband and wife shit done. But even while doing that, there is still an intimate dance that takes place. When the weekend arrives, the intimacy shifts to almost a playful like energy. We rarely talk about husband and wife shit. And we never do it either. We are like two kids going to the park, to a coffee shop, or traveling like young lovers. You know, doing boyfriend girlfriend shit . That’s our secret to our 2 decade long marriage. We know we’re married, but it’s like we’re not.

Every day of the week is good with her. But on the weekends, we are very much relaxed. It is almost like having a wife and a girlfriend. I am so incredibly in love with both of them. When life hits hard, the wife stands firm with me. All other days, I have this non judgmental, fun loving hippie chick that wants to play and be adventurous. She plays both roles. And I’ll take both of them.
