Pour

Pour. It really is that simple. If you want your relationship to last a lifetime, all you have to do is pour.

Two decades later, wife and I are closer than we have ever been. It’s not because our soul shattering intimacy. It is not because we enjoy the same things. And it’s not because we’re probably the two most laid back people you would ever meet. It is because we pour. I’ll explain…

Not long ago, we were out shopping one evening. There was an older lady struggling with her shopping cart {on that cold evening}. I went over to her and asked if she would like me to run it back into the store for her. I did. When I got back into the car, my wife said “You’re such a good man”. This morning while in the kitchen with my wife, I randomly grabbed and kissed her. The look she gave me melted my heart. Two very small insignificant things. But were they?

The truth is on a daily basis, we constantly pour into each other. Small things, yeah. But multiplied several times daily, they become an unbreakable bond. Which is probably why when we lost everything 10 years ago, we didn’t skip a beat. Or when she became fully disabled, we figured out what our new life was going to look like rather quickly. And when our daughter passed away, we gave each other exactly what we needed to make sense of it all.

In our house, it is all about the pour. And for that reason alone, we will never thirst.
