You did it! You’re now a legend. Your post got thousands of Likes and Shares. People are talking. They’re talking about you. You happen to start reading the comments…and they’re all bad. Now you’ve been immortalized. What a terrible legacy.
There are a few things we should adhere to. Don’t go to the grocery store when you’re hungry. Don’t call you ex when you’re horny. And never type when your angry. Mother of God.
In a day and age where everyone post everything, maybe we should take a pause when we’re angry. First of all, under even the best conditions, we can often misinterpret what an email or a text say’s. I understand we have gotten away from face to face communication {phone calls as well}, due to the convenience. But with no inflection in a voice, no looking in someone’s eyes, and no observing body posture, we can get it wrong. And when we do, it can go really wrong. So think before you hit send.
I can recall the other day, I was getting ready to reply to a text regarding a family matter. Long story short, I was not pleased, so I typed out my response. I read it. Read it again. Read it one last time. Something felt a little off. So I walked…away. I pulled my wife aside and went through my response. She said perfect, but it comes across a little harsh. We hashed it out for about 10 minutes, and then it clicked. Don’t send. The fact that I had to read it over 3 times, should have been enough of a reason to pause. Or having the sense to get my wife’s opinion, should have sealed the deal. But it took having a 10 minute conversation to decide not to send. That process was like pulling teeth. But in the end, I know I did the right thing.
In my heart I know what I wanted to say. Had I replied to that text, the likely hood of what I was saying to be misinterpreted, was pretty high. How many text, post or emails have you sent, that have been taking out of context? And in today’s witch hunt social climate, there is no shortage of people being immortalized for saying something that is ridiculous. And if you don’t believe me. Catch me outside. How bout that?
