Sunday Underwear

It’s Sunday. And that can only mean one thing. Relax! And what better way to relax, than to get into your Sunday underwear. Come on, I know it’s not just me. I think many of us have that one pair of underwear that is saved for the weekend. You know, that comfortable pair. You’ve probably had them for a while. They are tattered, and you only wear them on the weekends, or when you’re feeling sick. They literally scream no responsibility and comfort.

So, after my morning work out and shower, I put my Sunday underwear on today. It’s going down. Going to have a little brunch in bed, watching tv. Maybe jump on social media for a bit. And then I will be taking at least a 2 hour nap. And this is all possible via my Sunday underwear.

When I was meditating in the shower this morning {don’t judge me}, I thought about what my Sunday underwear means. It literally means comfort and or relaxed. As most people that know me personally, they would tell you that I am the most laid back person you would probably ever meet. I’m easy like a Sunday morning. While that may be true, I know that I desperately look forward to Sundays. Because on most of them, I do not see any private practice clients. That means I look like death warmed over. It aint pretty. And all the while I am cruising the house in my Sunday underwear. Wife looking at my like…..how the Hell did I end up with this?

I say all of that to say this. I know for many, Sunday underwear gives them permission to relax. But I say learn to relax now. Underwear or not. Sunday or not. Life is far too short to live for the weekends. After 20 years of working as a crisis counselor, I can tell you that there will be weekends when relaxing is not possible. So relax now. Build a life that feels like Sunday underwear. And if you do, your life, health and relationships will bring you joy in so many unexpected ways.
