The Purpose Of Pain

I would never wish anyone pain. In fact, I don’t even speak of karma. To me, speaking of karma, only creates bad karma. That said, there is a purpose of pain. It’s unfortunate, but pain {often} promotes a better life. I’ve spent my entire life working with people in pain. I myself, have been riddled with pain as well. And if used correctly, pain will lead you to understand things that you would probably never learn. So let’s get into it…

Some people in pain, especially chronic pain, do the unthinkable. And you know what? I get it. If you have ever had the type of pain that you literally begged God to take your life, you would get it too. I don’t judge it. But, when we are shaken to our core, feeling broken beyond repair, that is where transformation happens. If you can sit with it, your mind, body and spirit will take you to knowledge that feels like home.

When we’re in pain, our first thought is to get out of pain. Makes sense to me. But when there is no relief, and reality sets in, it’s time to do the work. Give up or get up. Both are appropriate. But if you choose to get up, the internal work that you do, often can override the pain. In other words, pain will often be the fast track to growth.

Have you ever been a in relationship and it ended? You have been together for a while, but over the course of time, it wasn’t magical anymore. In fact, it became a slow drain on you. And then one day, you woke up totally unhappy. But this is where it gets convoluted. They up and leave you. You’re pissed, and sour to all other relationships. But time passes. You start to realize that you weren’t giving your best. You may have even realized that you may have been a bit of an asshole. And then one day, you meet another. They strike your fancy. You go on to live an amazing life together. And none of this would be possible, if you didn’t feel the pain, do the work and be open to change. See what I am getting at?

Pain. It’s a mother fucker. But it is also the mother of all blessings. To be able to make friends with your pain, try and understand what it’s revealing to you. That is where your power lies. That is when the transformation awaits. Because pain does serve a purpose. We just need to get out of the way. Embrace that. Understand that. Watch how your life changes. Will your pain go away? It’s possible. But it is also possible to co-exist with it. And that may just be enough.
