Walk Me Home

Circle the wagons and bring it in. Keep it small, and go not where you’ve been. The sun is setting, and the moon is on the rise. Walk me home, and sing me lullabies.

Death. The homecoming. Not to be feared by the pure of heart. The transition, the reward. Reminds me of a great line. Dying is easy. Life is hard. And life can be hard if surrounded by unsupportive people. We cling to them as if we owe them. Holding on for a lifetime, just because you had history together. I am here to tell you, sometimes history is tragic.

Look at the people in your life. Now look at where you are in your life. Who is draining the very life out of you? They got to go. Blood or not, this is a time for alignment. What relationships do you pour into, only to deplete you? Pay attention to your body. If the very thought of someone decreases your energy, it’s time to put distance between you and them.

Working nearly 40 years in mental health, I’ve seen hundreds of people pass. It has always been hard to watch someone die, when surrounded by people that they should have walked away from, a long time ago. Do yourself a favor. Pick people that pick you. Reward the people who feel blessed to have you in your life. Because time is passing and we’re all going home. And not everyone deserves to join you on that walk.
