What Am I Supposed to Know?

I am fortunate enough to work from home. And while that sounds great, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t get busy, or complicated. The only difference is, I am putting out fire in my pajamas. But I still have to be accountable. Even more so, than if I worked for a company. It all falls on my shoulders. Or in other words, I am betting on myself.

I am also fortunate enough to live in a sleepy little beach town. Which means I can be at the beach in 5 minutes. And that is helpful, as I like to drink my coffee at the water. Many times, the wife joins me. Other times she does not. And it is on those days; I like to spend a little time and have a conversation with the universe. I only ask one question.

While I am looking at the water, the question I ask is, “What am I supposed to know?” That one question activates a calm mind, and a deep silence. It may sound simple, but if you really listen, you will get an answer. Some think I am saying that you will get some life altering information. And sometimes I do. Other times, I may just think about something that I forgot to do. And yet other times, I hear the words just breathe. The point is to get in alignment.

Not every meditation is going to reveal the secrets of the universe. Sometimes the point of meditation is to get you, to be there for you. Simplicity at its finest. We complicate things. Meditation is a way to get uncomplicated.

Feeling lost? Meditate. In pain? Meditate. Need support? Meditate. If you could manage just 5 minutes a day, I promise you that life would start to look and feel very different. And it all starts with just one question. What am I supposed to know?
