Whore No More

Whore for more. From a mental health standpoint, social media has really done a number on a lot of people. What so many are giving up, and doing for a “Like”, continues to be unhealthy. The need for instant validation, has led many into an addiction like trance. A little attention feels good. A lot feels better. The problem comes when, the attention stops. So you have to go bigger. And for some, it literally has cost them their lives.

I feel lucky that I grew up without social media. But here we are, living in a world of instant gratification. Life is moving fast. And we are starting to see the effects. It’s powerful. It’s addictive. And trust me, there will be a fallout for many. I know this to be true, as I have consulted for many, in an HR capacity. I have seen a lot of people lose great jobs because if their postings. Companies will deny it. But they are looking at your social media.

I’m pretty much a “what you see, is what you get” kind of a guy. Both raw and unfiltered. But if you take half a fucking second, you will find a man that fights for equality and is generous beyond words. That said, fuck is one of my favorite words. And well some, some have tried to correct my vocabulary…which is quite extensive mind you. You don’t like the word fuck, then you can get the fuck out of my circle. But I digress….

I don’t filter who I am. I have gotten criticism {especially on LinkedIn} for my sometimes “no filter” way of life. But why do I do it? It has nothing to do with “Likes”. I need for you to know that if you work with, or hire me, you have a realistic expectation of what you are getting into. I bring something heavy to the table…Me! But it ain’t always pretty.

Social media is a tool. And I have made a ton of money off of it. But the goal has never really been about money, new jobs and especially “Likes”. I post what I post, because I want you to know that someone out their truly cares. And while I can’t get to the vast majority of those who reach out, I see you. I feel you. And often call many of you by name in prayer. For me, social media is a way to bring hope to as many as I can. And in return, I have met some amazing people.

As a younger man, I have done things I am not proud of. I have spent the rest of my life becoming the person I needed, when no one was there. I made a lot of mistakes. But never again will I be a whore for more. And I hope that you don’t either. Social media is social, and not everything social turns out good. Be true to yourself. You don’t need to keep lowering the bar to get attention. Be completely who you are. I have friends in real life who are politicians, preachers and porn stars. I connect with who I connect with. And I have connected with them, because they know who they are, and they are doing what they love. And that is what I am talking about. Not needing that outside validation.

Whore no more. It doesn’t matter what you do. It only matters who you are.
